Cessnock, Maitland, and Singleton Council now provide residents with WEEKLY FOGO organics collections for your unwanted food and garden clippings.
FOGO is short for food organics and garden organics.
Only food and garden vegetation can be disposed of in the organics (FOGO) bin
Households received a kitchen caddy and roll of 150 liners to collect your food waste (cooked or raw). Just empty your food and liner into your existing large organics bin.
The next delivery of rolls (150 liners) to housholds will take place during May and June 2026. More detailed information about dates will be posted here as available.
Top up packs of 50 are available from your Council administration centres and local libraries at no cost.
Only the green council supplied liners are accepted.
It’s ok to put your food in the bin loose without the bag if you choose.
Click the link for help to open the liners the first time.
If you do not have an approved organics bin with the council logos on the front as in the image above, or your bin has not been serviced, click here.
An additional bin is available by contacting your local council.
Your organics are processed into commercial grade compost by ANL and used in a range of horticultural products used to improve soil quality.
The Solo collection trucks cameras detect and record any incorrect material emptied from the bin, and our education team are out checking bins. They are happy to answer any questions and clear up any confusion about what can go into your FOGO bin.
This all helps to protect the quality of the final product and our soils for a greener future.
Need some help with your organics bin and can’t find the answer here? Send your question and our Education officer will let you know the answer. Response time is generally within 48 hours. The Solo Education Officer is also available for community and school presentations on request.
